
This is a kind of fungus (possibly Antrodia serialis) which I found appealing which is on a gate post that is rotting. I don’t know what it is about things like this that appeal. Maybe it’s something about the pattern. There is an irregular regularity about it. I’m sure that it looks like this for a functional reason. It has a kind of ugly beauty if that’s something that I can say.

I like looking closely at subjects and the joy of macro photography appeals. The world looks very different close up. This silver birch (Betula pendula) bark has very long lenticels which are raised high against the surrounding smooth bark….
