Forestry - Trees

Dr Julian Evans

A few years ago I came across this book which a dear friend of mine had. The title called to me – I had to read it. This is the book:

I read it on my second trip to Tanazia back in 2017. My friend loaned it to me. I loved the book so I ended up getting a copy. The one I have is first edition. If you want to get it you can purchase it here from the publisher or a selection of outlets by searching on the internet.

This is not a ‘Mickey Mouse’ book, meaning it is actually well researched and written by forest scientist and who also has a Christian faith.

I dipped into it recently as I was researching for a Forest Church walk that is imminent. You could say I read a section by accident. I was looking up a particular tree from the index but had read the wrong page number and ended up reading an interesting piece. The piece was about the time when Moses threw a branch or part of a tree in bitter water to make it sweet. The author speculates intelligently whether it was a specific type of tree the (book pages 23,24) Moringa peregrina. One similar species of tree Moringa olifeora can produce sufficient seeds to treat 30,000 litres of water and in 2000 was recommended for rural communities who are unable to access clean drinking water. The water can be made tap-quality in around 2 hours.

There is a YouTube video of a lecture about sustainability which will open your eyes more to what Julian speaks on. The best thing I like is a written interview with Dr Julian which can be found here at Tilhill Forestry Company.

He also shares some video on how he bought managed and looked after his own 30 acre woodland.

If you’re not into reading the book there is a video here entitled God’s Trees by the same person.
