Many of you may have heard by now of Jordan B Peterson. He is a Clinical Psychologist with many accolades to his name. He’s all over YouTube and various media sites. I first heard of him relatively recently on a Facebook post. Since then I have dabbled on and off in listening to what he has to say. I admit I haven’t gone full out to listen to a whole video or podcast where he’s speaking. I’ve tended only to listen to shorter clips, more to do with my attention span than to what he says! For that reason and also some of his grand language which I have difficulty processing I have avoided going deeper into his talks.
That I think is about to change. A colleague of mine who has since moved on to prison work wanted to pay for fuel as I gave him some lifts home from work. I refused, yet he wouldn’t be deterred. In the end I said you can get me something instead. He found out I like reading. He also has a connection to a reputable gin company (is that a thing?!) and said that he’d get me some. I said I wasn’t really a gin drinker. I said I like ales. I had forgotten all about this conversation until a couple of weeks ago I receive a random book and a few days later a twin set of Red Rock ale with glass. The random book:

I have begun to read the book. So far I have read the forward which is from another great mind who writes about the brain Dr Norman Doidge MD. He writes an interesting introduction to ’12 Rules for Life’. His book itself looks to be informative. Called ‘The brain that changes itself’. A quote about it from the New York Times pulled me up and made me think – who’d of thought such a little quote could make quite a difference. It has certainly made me reconsider how I’ve been thinking about things.
‘The power of positive thinking finally gains scientific credibility. Mind-bending, miracle-making, reality-busting stuff’

Recently I wrote a post on a podcast from Seen and Unseen podcast Re-enchanting which was about re-enchanting nature. I have been picking at some of the other podcasts from that source. I went to the last one of their current series. I wasn’t sure about listening to it as the synopsis said that it was about re-enchanting the Bible. What does that actually look like? Is that something I need? In the end the fact that it was an interview with someone not from the West and who had an Indian name swung it for me. I’m glad I did. I must say I think I would like to explore what he is saying about the history of India. Maybe it was what he was saying, was new to me, that made me question is this correct? Anyway you will see what I mean if you listen to the interview.
You can find it here:

The Indian in question is Vishal Mangalwadi – Revelation Movement. Vishal has an interesting story. It was fascinating to me to find out things about India which I never knew of. Vishal writes about the subject in his books that India, Hindi and surrounds was based upon the Bible. And for a little name drop, he also mentions Tom Holland – not the one of Spiderman fame but the historian who also writes on similar themes. Tom along with a friend hosts a top 10 podcast called ‘The Rest is History‘
As I wrote earlier I don’t find it easy to listen to long sessions of someone talking. I like to read their thoughts more as I can digest at my own pace which is much slower. The reason for saying this is in wanting to find out more about Vishal I look at his website as mentioned in the previous paragraph and I am delighted to see that he is being interviewed by Jordan Peterson thus bringing this post full circle. Although my mind dances all over the place it does like to make connections like this and bring the pieces together.

And at that point you’re strong enough to have your life.
And at that point you’re strong enough not to fall prey to pathological belief systems and work towards the destruction of things.
