An addition to my blog on Leith Hill regarding Gaultheria shallon. This species according to Plantlife the charity, is an invasive. Shallon can be found in garden centres around the country. It is causing other species to be smothered according to them on their website:

I suspected something wasn’t quite right and thought maybe it had been accidentally introduced by American troops during WW2 but I found nothing on there being troops there!
Hopefully the National Trust are aware of this. Bilberries may not survive long if Salal spreads!
