Supernatural world

This is a page which introduces a subject that has been in the background of my life. I will be writing about some of the issues which I have come across that I have been made aware of by the people I list below.

From the get-go I need to say I am not an expert on supernatural stuff. I do have an awareness of such matters and a heightened spiritual sense. I used to think I was alone in this regard, but I am not.

I would like to say that what I want to say here has some grounding in the Bible. I have written about this elsewhere particularly under the dreams section.

In recent years I have been listening to various folk who are on the fringe in some Christian circles who have opened my eyes to what is going on in the spiritual realm. I would like to introduce them to you. They have messed with my head, challenged my world view and yet have inspired me to go deeper in my relationship with God and continue to do so.

The Bible is full of supernatural events which are often glossed over or seen through a different lens. Yet the events are there described all the same. Outside of the Bible there have been others who have influenced me. The first people to do this I haven’t included in my list below. They are John Bunyan, C S Lewis, JRR Tolkien, Stephen Lawhead and Christine Irvine. Bunyan in his book describes a dream that he had (I believe) which was Pilgrim’s Progress which describes the journey of a man called Christian. That had a profound effect on me as well as his book Holy War. The other three authors I have mentioned affected me through their fictional works and continue to do so. Then I came across Christine who has a very real story which woke me up some more to the reality of the world we cannot see. She wrote about it in ‘From witchcraft to Christ.

I had a particular scary experience when I was about 9 of some imp-like creatures, I was seeing at bedtime around my walls. I went downstairs and got prayed for by my parents and a friend who had come from church I went back to bed and had a peaceful night’s sleep. I’m guessing more people ‘out there’ have had experiences both negative and positive. This page and the people referenced on it leads to a framework for understanding the world from a supernatural worldview. I am not a person who has had many ‘encounters’, spiritual experiences such as many of these speak of but I believe they are real.

These are the key people who have influenced me in this matter right up to the time of writing. This list is roughly chronological of when I came across each person.

Some of these people are very practical in how they speak about matters of the supernatural, it’s not something that is just out there, excuse the pun but it does have a real part to play in the world around us whether we believe that or not.

All of the people mentioned have one thing in common they follow Jesus Christ. He is the one who makes sense of everything both material and spiritual. He is the one who holds both of those worlds together.
